Scottish Antique Empire Dresser/highboy Flame Mahogany Original Locks & Key

Rare Antique - Circa 1820, Flame Mahogany "Gentleman's Chest" that hails from Scotland. It has its original finish, Operable locks on all six drawers & the original key too! There are four, full-width drawers and two half-width drawers at the top. It is both Handmade & Carved, as evidenced by the beautifully hand-planed drawer bottoms and carefully dovetailed joints. Additionally, there is not a single nail to be found in the piece, but rather wooden pegs. The drawer knobs are embellished with Mother of Pearl at their center and there is an unseen Secret Hiding Spot within the bonnet. It is called a "Gentlemen's Chest" because In the Days of Old, a Butler would mount a step-stool to reach the higher drawers to retrieve the gentleman's clothing. A strikingly elegant statement piece that can fit perfectly in any living space as well as your master bedroom. The bonnet, base and body of the piece come apart in three separate sections for ease in moving. MEASUREMENTS: Height : 5.10-feet Depth: 2.2-feet Width: 4.2-feet.
