Antique 1800s Flame Mahogany Bow Front Chest of Drawers Dresser 42 W, 38 T
No Maine Deliveries north of Bangor Maine. No Deliveries to the Florida Keys. This is a beautiful and unusual style antique chest of drawers.

The design is a simple bow-front with a smooth round turned mahogany 3/4 column at each front corner. The top of the columns have graceful turnings that curve in and out. The bottom of the column has a small turning and then has a wider diameter at the base. The reason for describing the columns first is because the rest of the cabinet follows the column details. The Top drawer and case stands out as a cap to the other drawers.

The bow-front drawer has an ogee shape, matching the column tops. This graceful design carries on either side of the cabinet, which tops the ends that have flat recessed panels. The lower 3 bow-front drawers have a flat profile that is consistent with the smooth main part of the corner columns.

Each of the drawers has hand-cut dovetails. The bow-front apron/base has a nice detailed molded top edge. The bottom edge has a simple cutout shape with a raised molding applied to the bottom edge.

As can be seen in the photos, a small section of the applied molding is missing on the left front. A similarly shaped base is on each end, but they lack the bottom applied moldings.

The Solid mahogany top follows the shape of the chest, with rounded projections above the columns. The back of the cabinet is vertical planks, most likely pine.

The cabinet rests on 4 casters. Besides the unusual shape, the thing that catches your eyes is the stunning mahogany veneer.

The drawer fronts have a flame or crotch mahogany veneer, while the sides have simpler but very rich grain. There are a few minor losses in the veneer as can be seen in the photos, but overall it is in fantastic condition. The key works the bottom 3 locks but does not seem to work in the top lock. Another unusual detail in this piece is that it has no pulls and you need the key in the lock to pull the drawers open.

Chest Specifications: Region: Possibly English, but uncertain. 42-1/2" wide, 22" deep, 38-1/2 Tall. NOTE: Many of our pieces come from estate sales so we do not have any history of the pieces.
