ULTRA CHOICE NEW YORK CITY ANTIQUE CLASSICAL PERIOD MAHOGANY DRESSER / TALL CHEST. We are honored to offer you robust New York City (Brooklyn) Classical period mahogany tall chest. It has a partial makers label on the back panel identifying as being made on Middagh Street in Brooklyn, NY. " (First name) "J" and last name "R. The rest of the label is missing meaning before we got it it had only been moved once or twice in the last 2 centuries! We instantly knew we were looking at an exceedingly rare case piece of extraordinary quality from the very moment we saw it. It has heavily carved swags on both right & left top panels over Corinthian Capitals on gracefully formed right & left flanking columns.

This is an overhung chest formatted with 2 over 3 drawers. The right & left top drawers are accented by cross banded inlay. Both the right & left sides of the case possess recessed panels.

The chest stands on turned legs terminating in compact ball feet. It pre-dates records on the furniture makers situated in Brooklyn. If it were Boston we could tell you who made it and when.

We are authorities on the works of the New York City shops of Duncan Phyfe, William Sylvester and the Allison brothers. We instantly ruled them out even before finding the partial label. These are off the truck photos. We would like to have every small issue addressed prior to listing a piece but had to get this special example up right away. We are running a very large shop dealing with over a few thousand pieces each year. This tall chest is 46" long, 23 1/2" wide and stands 47 tall.

The drawer's have a wonderful crisp action and all function like the day it was crafted. Bay Colony Antiques is a dedicated group of New England antique dealers from Springfield, Massachusetts.
