Early 20th C. Solid Mahogany Depression Era Style Chest on Chest
This solid mahogany chest on chest was manufactured as part of a bedroom suite in the early 20th century. Done in a mix of French and American Chippendale style, it features a set of four long, narrow drawers as part of the "top chest, " each with a pair of ornate floral pulls and the two lower drawers featuring clothing partitions. The significantly larger, "bottom" chest features three large drawers and is done in a dramatic bombe style. Each drawer features a curved front and a matched pair of swooping handles. All seven drawers feature moulded and paneled fronts and dovetail joinery. The chamfer sides of the piece has been carved with high and low relief floral and foliate motifs and it possesses a serpentine, scrolled apron along the front and two side The feet are short and scrolled as well, echoing the rest of the designs throughout the piece. This chest measures 60" high, 44" wide, 22 deep, and weighs approximately 175 - 200 lbs. This antique piece is in very good condition but does show the typical signs of wear to the wood along the edges of the moldings and feet for an item of this age.
