The dresser looks great, it was a pleasure meeting you and your children. Stunning Chest of Drawers in Golden African Crotch/Feather Mahogany & Black. I restored this chest from top to bottom and customized it along the way! The African Golden Mahogany side panels and top have stunning grain textures and grain figuring which appear to shimmer. All of the African mahogany is very thick veneers.The drawers all feature precision dovetail joinery at all four corners of each drawer. The drawer sides and backs are solid mahogany, the drawer bottoms are mahogany veneers. The drawers have all been fully restoredtaken all the way apart & carefully restored.....
The drawers slide like silk. The drawers all feature a stiffener piece in the drawer bottom which is a high quality detail from the maker which makes the drawers very strong. The insides of all drawers feature a hand rubbed varnish, bringing out the beautiful mahogany grains.
One drawer has a non removable divider in the middle, an nice extra detail from the maker. The makers copper medallion is inside one drawer.. "Johnson Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan"(see photo). I custom made the back splash! I hand restored the entire finish including the custom black accents.
Many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish that feels like silk, yet at the same time you can feel the wonderful grain textures. Consistent with any fine antique, there are very tiny imperfections in the wood.. Such as small nicks, minor veneer restoration, etc. This chest is in outstanding condition. Floor to top of back splash trim...
